One of my favorite boredom busters as a child was to sit in class and relax my eyes until the room became blurry. In this state, colors blend, objects lose their shape, and all perspective is thrown off kilter. Maybe ADD had something to do with this game, but you could say it was practice and preparation for my future career as a photographer...right? Decades later I am still constantly observing my surroundings, the colors, the composition, the light, it's just that nowadays I choose to keep (most) things in focus. I strive to capture the truth. The world as I see it, not some contrite situation that I have manifested. There are many things I can control like location and time of day, but in my opinion, the best photos aren't planned, they just happen.
